# Connect your own domain (/how-to/website/connect-your-own-domain)

When to use this [#when-to-use-this]

* Your website is on its free `yourname.resytech.site` address and you want it on `www.yourbusiness.com`.
* You are replacing an old website with your Resytech website.

You need access to the account where your domain's DNS is managed (often your domain registrar, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap or Squarespace Domains, or a service like Cloudflare).

Steps [#steps]

1\. Decide on the address [#1-decide-on-the-address]

Use the `www` version of your domain, for example `www.yourbusiness.com`. A root domain without `www` can't point to your website directly; you will forward it to `www` in step 5.

If you already use `www.yourbusiness.com` for an old website, the old site stops showing when you complete step 2. Have your Resytech website published and ready first.

2\. Add the DNS record [#2-add-the-dns-record]

At your DNS provider, add (or change) this record:

| Type | Name / Host | Value / Points to | TTL |
| ----- | ----------- | ----------------------- | ------------------- |
| CNAME | `www` | `connect.resytech.site` | Automatic or 1 hour |

If a record for `www` already exists (a CNAME or an A record), edit or delete it first; a name can only have one.

3\. Connect it in Resytech [#3-connect-it-in-resytech]

Go to **Marketing > Website**, open **Template settings > Website address**, and choose **Your own domain** (or **Use your own domain** if you already have an address). Type `www.yourbusiness.com` and click **Connect domain**.

* If Resytech can't see the record yet, it says so and shows what it found. Wait a few minutes and click **Check again**.
* When the record is found, Resytech starts setting up your domain.

4\. Wait while it is set up [#4-wait-while-it-is-set-up]

Resytech prepares your domain and issues its secure certificate, usually within a few minutes. The editor keeps checking while it is open; you can also close it and click **Check again** later. Your website stays on its current address until the domain is ready, then moves to it and the status shows **Live**.

5\. Forward the root domain [#5-forward-the-root-domain]

In your domain provider's settings, forward `yourbusiness.com` to `https://www.yourbusiness.com`. Look for "Forwarding", "Redirect" or "URL redirect". Choose a permanent (301) redirect if asked.

Check it worked [#check-it-worked]

* `https://www.yourbusiness.com` shows your website with a padlock in the address bar.
* `https://yourbusiness.com` takes you to the `www` address.
* In **Website address**, the status says **Live**.

Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

| Problem | What to do |
| ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| "We can't see a CNAME record" after an hour | Check the record's name is exactly `www` (some providers add your domain automatically, so `www.yourbusiness.com` becomes `www.yourbusiness.com.yourbusiness.com`). |
| The record points somewhere else | Another record for `www` is still there. Remove it so only the CNAME to `connect.resytech.site` remains. |
| "That domain is used for a booking page" | Your booking page already uses this domain. Use a different one, such as `www` for the website and `book` for booking. |
| Status says **Needs attention** | Contact support with your domain name. |
