Register a Terminal
Connect a Stripe Terminal card reader to your Resytech POS so you can accept tap, chip, and swipe payments in person.
Resytech uses Stripe Terminal for in-person card payments. This guide covers how to connect a physical card reader to your POS system.
Prerequisites
- POS is enabled (see Set Up POS)
- A Stripe Terminal-compatible card reader (e.g., BBPOS WisePOS E, Stripe Reader M2, or Verifone P400)
- The reader is powered on and connected to the same network (WiFi or Ethernet) as your location
Supported Reader Types
Resytech supports any reader compatible with Stripe Terminal's server-driven integration. Common models include:
| Reader | Connection | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe Reader M2 | Bluetooth / USB | Portable, tap and chip |
| BBPOS WisePOS E | WiFi / Ethernet | Countertop, built-in screen, tap/chip/swipe |
| Verifone P400 | Ethernet | Countertop, tap/chip/swipe |
The device type and serial number are recorded automatically during registration.
Step-by-Step: Register a Reader
- Navigate to Dashboard > POS > Terminals (or click the Settings icon on the POS page, then follow the link to Terminals).
- Click Register Reader (or Register Your First Reader if no readers exist yet).
- In the registration dialog, fill in two fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Registration Code | The alphanumeric code displayed on the reader's screen during its setup/pairing mode. On most readers, this appears automatically when the reader powers on for the first time or after a factory reset. |
| Reader Label | A friendly name you choose, such as "Front Counter" or "Back Office". Maximum 100 characters. |
- Click Register Reader. Resytech sends the registration code to Stripe, which pairs the reader with your Stripe Terminal location.
- Once registered, the reader appears in the terminals list with its status, device type, and serial number.
Default Reader
The first reader you register is automatically marked as the Default Reader. The default reader is pre-selected when processing terminal payments. You can identify it by the star badge on its card in the terminals list.
Viewing Reader Status
Each registered reader shows:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Label | The friendly name you assigned. |
| Device Type | The hardware model (set by Stripe). |
| Serial Number | The reader's hardware serial. |
| Status | online (connected and ready), offline (not reachable), or other transitional states. |
| Registered | The date and time the reader was added. |
| Last Seen | The most recent time the reader communicated with Stripe. |
Removing a Reader
- On the Terminals page, find the reader you want to remove.
- Click Remove in the card footer.
- Confirm the removal when prompted.
Removing a reader deletes it from both Resytech and Stripe. The physical reader will need to be re-registered if you want to use it again.
Troubleshooting
Reader does not show a registration code
- Make sure the reader is powered on and connected to WiFi or Ethernet.
- Some readers require a factory reset to re-enter pairing mode. Consult the reader's manual.
- Check that the reader's firmware is up to date (managed through the Stripe Dashboard or the reader's own update mechanism).
Registration fails with a Stripe error
- Verify that your Stripe account is connected and active.
- Confirm the registration code is entered exactly as shown on the reader (codes are case-sensitive on some models).
- If the code has expired, restart the reader to generate a new one.
Reader shows "offline" after registration
- The reader may have lost its network connection. Check WiFi or Ethernet.
- Power-cycle the reader.
- The status may take a minute to update; refresh the terminals page.
"Stripe account not configured" error
- Navigate to Dashboard > Company and confirm your Stripe account is connected.
- See Stripe Setup for connection instructions.
What to Do Next
- Create POS Products -- add items to sell.
- Accept Terminal Payments -- use the reader to collect payment on an order.
