Checkout Steps
Add dedicated screens between the date/time picker and checkout to sell add-ons, present trip protection, or collect guest details.
By default, customers pick an activity, choose their equipment and time, and land straight on the checkout page, where add-ons and trip protection appear as sections above the payment form. Checkout steps let you pull any of those sections out onto a screen of its own, in whatever order you like, before the customer reaches checkout.
A dedicated screen gets more attention than a checkbox row halfway down a form. Typical uses:
- A single screen that pitches trip protection with a clear add-or-skip choice
- One screen per add-on, so a picnic package or photo pass gets its own presentation
- A short message customers read before they book
- A guest-details screen placed before add-ons whose limits depend on the party size
Locations with no steps configured keep the default flow exactly as it is today.
Adding Steps
- Click Location in the top navigation
- Go to the Checkout tab and open Checkout Steps
- Click Add step, choose a type, give it a title, and save
- Drag steps (or use the arrows) to set the order customers see them in
- Click Save in the page header
Every step has:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Title | The heading customers see on the screen |
| Subtitle | An optional line under the title |
| Activities | Which activities show this step. Leave empty for all of them |
| Required | Customers must press Continue on this screen before they can reach checkout. Contact details and additional information steps are always required |
Step Types
Add-ons
Offers add-ons on their own screen. Leave the add-on list empty to offer every add-on available for the customer's selection, or pick specific add-ons to give them a screen of their own. Choose a Cards layout (image-led tiles) or a List layout (compact rows).
When several add-on steps could offer the same add-on, the first step in the order gets it. Add-ons that no step covers still appear on the checkout page as before, so nothing you sell disappears.
Trip protection
Presents the activity's trip protection offer with add-or-skip choices. The price, coverage, and whether the purchase is mandatory all come from the activity's own settings. The step only appears for activities that have trip protection enabled.
If the activity makes trip protection mandatory, the screen shows the add option only, since a booking without it cannot complete. If the step itself is marked required, customers must click add or skip before continuing.
Guest details
Collects the guest mix (for example adults and children) before checkout. Place it before an add-on step whose limits depend on the number of guests, so those limits are correct when the customer sees them. Tours already ask for the party on the date page and skip this step.
Content
A message, pitch, or notice written in the rich text editor. Customers read it and press Continue. Use it for a safety note, a what-to-bring list, or a short upsell before the add-on screens.
Contact details
Moves the name, email, and phone form to its own screen. This step is always required, since the booking cannot complete without it.
Additional information
Moves the activity's custom fields (questions, signatures, uploads) to their own screen. Always required, and only shown for activities that have custom fields.
With both of these configured, the checkout page holds only what remains: agreements, discounts, tip, and payment.
What Customers See
Steps run in order after the customer picks a time. Each screen shows the booking summary, the step's title, its content, and Back and Continue buttons. The breadcrumb at the top lists every step, and customers can return to an earlier one at any time.
A step that has nothing to show is skipped automatically: an add-on step whose add-ons are not available for the chosen time, a trip protection step on an activity that has it turned off, or a guest-details step on a tour.
On the checkout page, each section that moved to a step is replaced by a one-line summary of what the customer chose there, with an Edit link back to that screen.
Required steps cannot be skipped by going directly to the checkout address or by using the browser's history. A customer who lands on checkout with a required step outstanding is sent to that step first.
Embedded Booking Pages
Steps work the same way when your booking page is embedded on your website or opened from a deep link. A link that already carries the date and time lands the customer on the first step rather than on checkout. If the embed locks the schedule, customers can still move between steps but cannot go back to change the date or time.
